Merion is primarily a residential area, yet is known as the home of the Barnes Foundation, a private collection of some of the world’s greatest paintings.  Further, St. Joseph’s University has currently attained property in Merion which is also home to Merion Mercy Academy, Waldron Academy and Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy.  The Old General Wayne Inn in Merion, now converted to a religious institution, is famous for its historic visitors including Edgar Allen Poe and George Washington.
