The main goal of staging is to allow the buyers to envision themselves in the house, so that they can imagine the endless possibilities in making it their own. One of the Main Line’s finest designers, Constance Healey has provided us with some tips on preparing your home for prospective buyers. If you need further assistance, please call one of our agents and they will be happy to guide you in the right direction.
1) Curb Appeal - Keep the grass cut, plant some flowers and make sure the front of the home is alive and fresh. Add some hanging plants and make sure to touch up any spots that are in need of paint. Refinishing or painting the front door can also add a crisp feel to the home.
2) Clutter - Purge items that you will purge anyway when you move. For anything undecided, find a local storage space to place them in.
3) Wear and Tear - Take care of anything such as chipping paint, recaulking the bathroom and leaky sinks. Always let the prospective buyers know that you take the best possible care of your home.
4) Removal - Replace any simple items such as moldy shower curtains with something wonderful that you can later take with you.
5) Fresh - Add fresh flowers, the right music and a yummy scent such as fresh cookies. Always air out the house before any showings.
6) Bright Lights - Keep the house neat and clean, with lights on!
7) Art and Carpets - If the walls are bare borrow some paintings from a friend and place some throw carpets over any older or worn floors.
8) Three - Simple placement of special design items in groups of three help the eye to love your home.
9) Clean - Clean, clean and clean the home again before any open houses or showings!
Lastly, take before and after photos of your home to show that it can morph into the buyer’s visions and become their home. Let us help you envision your living space!
